Biography
Matt graduated from Loughborough College of Art and Design in 1998 with a BA Honours in Fine Art; Painting. In the same year he won the Loughborough University Art Gallery Purchase Prize. He has exhibited mainly in Sheffield and the East Midlands but also in London, and he has been represented at many Art Fairs including the AAF in London 3 times, as well as those in Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle. His work can be found in collections in Loughborough, Leicester, Nottingham and London amongst others.
Artist Statement
My paintings are studies of nature. Inspired by its ordered chaos and omnipresent self-symmetry, I work with satellite photography, geological structures, biological forms and microscopic imagery to create the paintings. I always try to let the nature of the paint guide me as I work and try not to touch the canvas too often. This exploits the infinite intricacies of the paint, which are impossible to reproduce by hand - thus making the paintings as absorbing from 10cm as from 10m.
