Biography

Verity is a ceramic artist creating works that explore mystery, trigger memories, generate atmosphere and evoke a sense of place. Verity makes distinct bodies of work, taking inspiration from the landscape, history and culture surrounding her in rural Herefordshire. Using clay as a medium for drawing and monoprinting, Verity creates sculptural, slab built, ceramic forms. It is important to Verity that the form and surface of her work create a harmonious composition and are integral to her subject matter. Verity has won numerous awards including the Guldagergaard Network Award, 2015, which enabled her to complete a ceramics residency at Guldagergaard, International Ceramic Research Centre, Denmark. She was also awarded the Manchester Craft and Design Centre Graduate Award which allowed her a three month solo exhibition at the centre in 2016. In 2017 Verity was selected for Hothouse, the Crafts Council’s creative business development programme for up-and-coming makers. Verity exhibited in the IV. International Ceramics Triennial UNICUM, Slovenia in 2018 and Verity also took part in New Designers One Year In at the Business Design Centre, London. As a result of exhibiting at New Designers One Year In Verity was featured in the London Evening Standard in June 2018. 2019 saw Verity exhibiting for the first time at Ceramic Art London, Central Saint Martins, King's Cross. Verity was also featured in international publications including Ceramics Art and Perception, Issue 112 and Neue Keramik/ New Ceramics, Issue 6/19. Verity became a Selected Member of the Craft Potters Association in 2021. In 2022 Verity exhibited once more at Ceramic Art London and she also took part in ‘Made In' International Exhibition of Contemporary Ceramics at Ceramic Art Andenne, Belgium. Further to this, Verity was featured in the international publication Ceramics Monthly as part of their Emerging Artist Competition, 2022.
